The Big Round-Up for Parade Handmade 2024

Amanda Coen

Ah, the festive twilight zone – that curious stretch between Christmas and New Year’s when time feels suspended. After the whirlwind of cooking, chatting, and merry mayhem, it’s only natural to feel a bit bamboozled. Despite best efforts to stay grounded, the current of Christmas creativity and social engagement has a way of sweeping us all along.

And now? It’s a ‘tur-curry’ kind of day in my house. Turkey soup bubbling on the stove and curry for dinner the washing machine humming contentedly – and here I am, tapping out a little reflection to hit my two-blogs-per-month goal. But amidst the lull, my mind is already wandering toward next year’s possibilities.

Looking Ahead: The Shape of 2025

As I sip on turkey soup (a simpler sibling to the tur-curry) and tuck into a choclatey selection I was gifted, I’ve been mulling over some changes for Parade Handmade. One idea I’m floating is focusing on selling exclusively to Ireland. It’s a big decision, I know. While I’ve been fortunate to reach customers in far-flung corners of the globe, the logistics of managing VAT, customs, shipping, and communications for multiple regions is no small feat for a one-woman business.

Ireland has always been my strongest base, so narrowing my focus could mean less time on admin and more time doing what I love: creating. Rest assured, I’ll explore every option – apps, tools, and strategies – before making a decision.

More Art, Fewer Constraints

Speaking of creating, 2025 will see a shift toward what truly lights me up: painting. Over recent years, I’ve dipped a toe into the art world again with cartoon Christmas cards, a few illustrations and a sprinkling of paintings, but now I’m ready to wade in fully. Painting is where I feel most connected to myself – pencils, paints, and canvas surrounded by plants, music, and light.

Some of my designs may even find their way into Print-on-Demand (POD) products, blending my artistic passions with functional, sustainable giftware. It’s all about finding that sweet spot between creativity and practicality.

Streamlining for Simplicity

Running Parade Handmade often feels like wearing a straightjacket – there’s so much to juggle! Next year, I’ll be streamlining processes and tightening collections. That means saying goodbye to products or practices that don’t serve the bigger picture. By niching down, I can focus on the things that truly bring me (and my customers) joy.

One big change? I’ll be introducing collections at carefully chosen points throughout the year, rather than creating multiple gift guides. The annual Festive Gift Guide will remain, but with stricter deadlines for collections or gift guide inclusion. Lesson learned: peace of mind comes first.

Making Space for Life

On a personal note, I’m planning to embrace a slower, more intentional rhythm in 2025. Exercise, quality time with friends, and a massive decluttering spree are on the cards. From wardrobes to craft corners, I’ll be clearing space – both physically and mentally – for what matters most.

It’s not about rigid resolutions but gentle intentions. A beacon to guide me forward, leaving room for flexibility and growth.

Looking Forward to 2025

As the year draws to a close, I want to thank you for your support throughout 2024. Your encouragement and enthusiasm fuel everything I do at Parade Handmade.

I wish you all the best with your own reflections and plans for the coming year. Here’s to fresh possibilities, creative energy, and a bright 2025.
